Dr. Karen Matthews Earns Independent Candidates Action Endorsement as Poll Shows Her Leading All Challengers

LOMA LINDA, CA - Dr. Karen Leigh Matthews’ Independent campaign for Congress in California’s 23rd District earned the endorsement of Independent Candidates Action, a national group focused on supporting independent-minded candidates who prioritize results over partisan politics. The endorsement comes as a recent poll shows Matthews leads all challengers in the field ahead of the June 2nd primary.

“This endorsement shows our campaign is bringing together voters from across the political spectrum at a moment when people are ready for something different,” said Matthews. “While the system keeps rewarding insiders and millionaire members of Congress, working families are falling further behind. This campaign is about changing that and putting power back where it belongs: with the people.”

Matthews is gaining traction in this race, according to a recent poll showing that she now leads all challengers in the field in an informed ballot test. This is a sign that voters are consolidating behind her message of tackling issues like rising costs, access to healthcare, and holding both corporations and politicians accountable.

Born in Loma Linda, Karen Matthews earned her degree in physical therapy, became a doctor, and joined the U.S. Navy, serving for 22 years. She rose through the ranks as a radiologist, preventive medicine specialist, data systems innovator, global health leader, and senior policy advisor at the Department of Health and Human Services, working at the Pentagon helping lead the Navy’s health tech modernization deliver care more efficiently and save taxpayer dollars. After leaving the Navy, Dr. Matthews started a small business to help veterans get the benefits they deserve. Dr. Matthews is now running for Congress to fix the broken status quo that has caused rising rent, higher costs, and paychecks that aren’t keeping up for families across California’s 23rd Congressional District.
